Bagger Dual Exhaust on a Sabre

After I took off the Longshots (Ls) , and realized the front pipe from the bagger exhaust wouldn't work (it's a different angle on the ACE and Sabre) So I had to use the head pipe from the longshot, and get a 7" exhaust extention. I used the muffler clamp from the Ls to attach the extention to the header. When I tried to put the muffler on the rear jug it would not go on, even with persuasion (rubber mallet). I looked inside and there was a spotweld holding the pipe from going in. Got out the dremel and ground the sombitch down. AHHHH slides on nice and easy. OK back to the bike put on rear pipe with no crush gaskets (yet) and exhaust nuts a little more than finger tight. The rear pipe is spozed to be 3/4 inch below the cross member, in front of the rear tire. I actually taped a candle (it was an inch wide) to the pipe. I placed the mufflers on jack stands that were almost the right height (2 notches up almost, 3 was to high).

The toughest part for me was making the brackets. I use flat steel that is ¼” x ¾” cuz that what I bought. I might try a 1" piece. The first try (which there is no evedence of) ended up about 1 1/2" to high. DOH! I knew I need a bracket at least 15" long so I cut them 16", 3 of the 4 anyway. The 4th one I left about 20, cuz I wasn't sure how long it was going to end up. I started by putting the steel in the vise and heating the middle of it, about 8 “ or so after it got really hot ( never got it glowing red) I twisted it 90 degrees, then stuck it in water to cool it down. I then put it back in the vise and beat the angle from the muffler to the saddle support bolt. Oh the bolts I’m using for my bags are about 3” long, and came with the bags. For the bolt holes on the mufflers I went ¾” from the end and 3/8” in. (it was in the middle). The top one I eye balled and dammit I did it right on all 4. The 4th bracket was a “z” shape olny cuz that’s the way it lined up on the muffler. I used the rear fender bolts for the rear brackets and the front rail bolt for front brackets. Oh lots of beer was consumed and hockey pucks were involved. I had to put one puck under my bike stand to get it within a half inch of being level. I use one puck on top of each muffler to where the bags would go. Hope it’s not to long and I’m sure I might have forgot to write about something
